Selling Made Simple

If you plan to sell on eBay then there are a few things you need to know to be successful. The first rule is to find which products are in demand on eBay. The second rule is to find a reliable supplier of the hot selling items. The third rule is to take care of your customers. This article will explain the ways I find out which items are in high demand on eBay.

eBay Pulse – This is a free tool supplied by eBay to help you find what people are searching for. The basic idea is if people are searching for an item on eBay then most likely it is in demand and people want to buy it. eBay pulse will show you the top ten searches within a product category. So if you want to sell women’s shoes then use eBay Pulse to see the top ten types of shoes or brands that people are searching for. Once again the service is free so do some quick research and find a hot product.

eBay Advanced Search – This is another tool that I use and it is free to use on eBay. Basically you go to the advanced search option of eBay and click completed listings. Then type in the item that you found in eBay Pulse. This will show you all of the listings that have completed for this item. You can then view which items completed in a sale versus expired listings without a sale. Of course you want to see items that have a large percentage of completed listings that ended in a sale.

Once you have completed this task then you need to find a reliable supplier of the product. You can use dropshippers or wholesalers. I prefer to use dropshippers for many reasons. Perhaps in my next article I will explain why.

Perhaps you are wondering about many issues regarding selling items. Yet, you have to consider eBay for many issues of selling industry. There is hardly anybody that does not know about eBay today. Alternatively, at the very least, these said people should have at least heard about it. eBay is an online marketplace where people buy and sell every single moment. It has fast become a megabucks avenue for selling used and new items alike. It was reported that a total of $86,000,000 are spent every day on eBay. The first question when people talk about eBay is what the best selling items on eBay are. We will discuss about that over the course of the article.

The answer to what are the best selling items on eBay, personally to me is everything and anything. Why is that so, you may ask? The answer simply lies in the individual. The individual sellers themselves can only answer a subjective question. What may sell to a seller might not necessarily sell well with another. This is due to some factors, which I will talk about here.

A seller who lists DVDs and CDs as his or her best selling items on eBay could very well have spent time to research the market. He or she may have a huge collection and have the knowledge on where to get cheap supplies for those items. If another seller were to try to sell those said items, it might not necessarily turn out to sell as well. A lot of time and patience is needed to earn a substantial and steady income on eBay. Knowledge about a particular item(s) is also essential. For instance, antiques might be potential best-sellers. However, to what extent do you know about antiques? It would be a total waste of time and money to try to compete with the many antique dealers and not forgetting the many ‘power sellers’ on eBay.

Having said that, a number of factors and variables do contribute to what makes it a best selling item on eBay or not. However, it still all pretty much boils down to an individual. An individual’s hobbies and interests can determine what sells. For example, a baseball card collector would be able to sell baseball cards for a start. This is because this said collector has the interest in it, the knowledge regarding the prices and where to source for cards that are in demand. This will give this said individual a competitive edge over other sellers of the same item.

Just so many items are listed on eBay. A person only have to start looking around his or her bedroom and house before being able to answer the question of what constitutes best selling item(s) on eBay.

Finding the top selling items on eBay is a good way for eBay sellers to know what to sell. There are several ways to find out what really sells on eBay.

One of the best ways to find out what is selling on eBay is to visit the eBay affiliate section of their website. There are several reports that show what is super hot on eBay and what is just hot on eBay. The report is broken down into several broad categories. Each section shows what is super hot to just hot for categories within the broad categories. The truth is that it is easier for you to see the report than for me to try to describe it. The other report is a keyword list report. This list show all of the top keyword searches on eBay. The reason this is important is because you want to know what people are searching for and then see if anyone is supplying that item. There are software packages that basically do the same thing and they only cost a few dollars. The software will search for what people are wanting on eBay, which would be the demand for the product. The software then searches to see if any eBay sellers are supplying the product, which would be the supply. I use one of the software programs and it saves me a tremendous amount of time finding the hot products. Once you have this information you will be able to find the niche products that you should be selling on eBay.

Of course, if you find an item to sell you will need to find a reliable wholesale source of the product or a drop shipper who can supply you with the hot item. There are several ways of finding drop shippers and wholesalers. One way is by using the internet. Unfortunately there are many scammers on the internet so beware. There are companies that will supply you with a list of wholesalers and drop shippers but finding a reliable company can be tricky.

If you want to find top selling items on eBay there are several ways to do it. The bottom line is that if you put the work into finding the hot items it should payoff in the long run.

selling on ebay

Ebay auctions can be easy to start but hard to finish with a winning bidder. If you use auctions, you have to know what is popular, otherwise you are going to have lots of closed auctions with high fees and no profit.

Ebay success depends on research. You can start your research offline by searching the newspaper for advertisements. Basically the advertisements which you see on the cover of most of the newspapers are going to be for what most people are buying on Ebay. You are going to want to promote whatever these ads are promoting.

Most of the new music and movies which are released on Tuesdays are going to be great sellers on Ebay.

Another way to know what is popular on Ebay is to go the Seller Central area on Ebay website. This area tells you what is popular based on what you are selling and what Ebay is currently promoting on its website’s home page. You can just buy some of these items and put them up for sale.

Andale.com offer a great service but it is not free. For a small monthly payment, this service will tell you what is hot for any given day ordered from the most popular to the least popular. Not only that, it will tell you what day to start your auction, how many days to run it for, what price to start your bidding at, and what is the best day for buy it now auctions. They offer charts and stats to help you too.

You can go a bit further into the research by trying another service called Word Tracker available at wordtracker.com. This tells you what the most popular search term on the internet is on different search engines. When you find a popular search term on a search engine like Yahoo or Google you can request that your term be submitted free, but it can take a while. You should do that if you have an Ebay store.

If you have an auction running and you find a popular search term based on your item, just use a pay per click (PPC) service for the search engine you want to use. Overture is the PPC for Yahoo and Adwords is for Google’s PPC. Each of these services allow you to bid a certain amount for a term, and when someone clicks on your term, you are charged that amount. Only use a few keywords when you start using a pay per click service, then you can add more later.

Using these tips and services you should become very successful on Ebay but remember to research before you put something on Ebay to sell.

If you are thinking of selling on eBay you need to know which items are in demand. You can sell anything on eBay but I would rather sell what is in high demand. There are a few free tools that you can use to find the top selling items on eBay and this article will explain each of them.

Tool 1 – eBay Pulse is a free tool offered by eBay that will show you the top ten searches on eBay within a particular product category. If you want to sell comic books on eBay then use eBay Pulse to see which comic books people are searching for. Once you know what people are searching for then you need to see how many people are successful at selling the items.

Tool 2 - The eBay advanced search tool will allow you to see completed listings. So type in a particular comic book that you found to be in demand and see how many listings completed in a sale versus the number of listings that completed without a sale. You want to make sure that you pick a product that is ending in a high percentage of sales. Once you have this figured out then you need to view the stores or listings to see the exact details about this product.

Tool 3 - In the eBay completed listings you need to view the details of the listings and observe the titles being used in the listings. Basically you want to model your listings after the successful listings.

Once you know what is in demand then find a product supplier. This can be difficult but not impossible.

Selling on eBay is simple, and signing up won’t cost a thing. eBay is a great place for new sellers to start out in online retail as there is so much traffic coming through the site everyday that you will always get buyers viewing your listings. It’s also simple to use and has some very handy help files to teach you everything you need to know.

There are 5 simple steps to getting your eBay account up and running. (If you have already set up an eBay account, skip to setting up a Sellers Account.)

Step 1. Click the ‘register’ button located next to the logo on any eBay page

Step 2. Enter your personal contact details such as your name, address, email address, phone number, and date of birth

Step 3. Read and accept eBay’s User Agreement and Privacy Policy.

Step 4. Choose a user ID number, password and secret question. Your secret question helps to identify you in case you forget your password and need to reset it.

Step 5. Check your email. You’ll receive a registration email from eBay. Follow the instructions in the email to confirm your registration and complete the registration process.

Setting up a Seller’s Account

To be able to sell on eBay, you need to create a seller’s account. To do this, follow these few simple steps:

Click on the Sell tab at the top of any eBay page. Select the ‘create a seller’s account link’. Provide eBay with your bank account, credit and/or debit card information. This is part of the verification process. Choose how you would like to pay your eBay fees.

Great, you are now ready to start selling! An excellent way to get started is to sell a few things from around your home. Most people have loads of stuff lying around that they never use like old sporting equipment, clothing, or a spare TV which never gets used. All these things can get you a pleasantly surprising amount of cash on eBay, but better still, selling them will give you some practice at selling on eBay.

Get ready to list Gather the items you wish to sell and start photographing them. Use an uncluttered background – an old white sheet will go a long way here – and make sure you take plenty of photos which really show off your item to its full potential. For more handy tips on taking great photos for your eBay listing, check out this article.

Listing your first item When you are ready, click the Sell button which you can find at the top right of any eBay page and work your way through the simple Sell Your Item Form. This will include writing a listing title, a listing description, and choosing whether you would like a Buy It Now or an auction listing (or both!).

You will need to enter the Buy It Now and/or reserve price also. In an auction, the reserve price is the minimum that you wish to sell the item for. Many sellers enter ?0.01 here to get people interested, but you should only do this if you are prepared for it to sell that low!

Include postage and packing information in the listing. Buyers want to know exactly how much it will cost to send the item.

Finally, select how you would like to receive payments from buyers. PayPal is a popular form of payment among buyers. If you haven’t already, set up an account now.

Right, you are all set now, time to get that listing live!

Online buying, selling and advertising has grown in recent years to massive proportions and has become an ever growing multi-billion dollar industry. More and more people are using the internet to buy goods and services and this means more companies and businesses need to advertise and sell online to keep up with competition.

Leading the market in online buying and selling is eBay. With over 100 million members, over the years eBay has become the most used and best know auction site in the world. Thousands of items are bought and sold on eBay every day as more and more merchants list items for bid and sale. However it is not all good news as this method of ecommerce comes with a price, one that could undermine the future of the industry.

As a seller on eBay as well as many other similar sites there are fees to be paid. When you list an item you pay a fee, there are also fees associated with the kind of item you are selling, and if you sell your item you pay yet another fee, the amount depending on the price your item sold for. There are also additional fees for the enhancing of listings like bold or highlight and more fees if you want to operate a store front.

While all these fees could be justified because of the high traffic eBay and other similar sites have they can add up to huge amounts, especially if you are selling hundreds of items a week. This can have a negative effect as the merchant has to keep the fees in mind when setting the selling price on his or her goods, this can add up to the buyer not getting the best deal they can get because of the fees.

There are alternative ecommerce sites that have no basic fees. Where it is free to register, free to list items and free to sell them too. In short anyone can use it to buy and sell goods and services at no cost whatsoever.

Take just a couple of minutes now…. Get a piece of paper and write down the names of people you know that would like to be able to sell online for free, if you are already a seller then write down how many clients you could name that would like to buy from you cheaper because you don’t have to pay any fees. Then after that write down how many businesses like restaurants, bars, florists, doctors, dentists, bakeries. clothing stores, shoe stores, hairdressers, mechanics, garages, car dealers, realtors (any business in fact) you have in your local area or home town that would like to be able to advertise to a global and local market place for up to 560 days continuously for free.

Selling wholesale lists on eBay has proved to be very profitable for me in my eBay selling efforts. I specialise in identifying niches and creating wholesale lists to suit the needs of these niches. It’s simple to create wholesale lists once you know how to do it.

Firstly, you need to join a wholesaler’s directory. Once you have joined, decide on a topic to base your wholesale list. For example, DVD’s or clothes or candles etc. Once you have decided, compile all the wholesale sources from the wholesale directory you joined related to the category you chose into a Microsoft Word document.

To find additional wholesalers you could do Google searches, compile website links from other wholesale lists and read reviews on related forums.

Let’s say for your wholesale list subject you chose DVD’s. Many sellers would be inclined to list their item with the auction title “The Ultimate DVD Wholesale List 2006″. But that method doesn’t work. Very few people search for the keyword, DVD, and even if that keyword was searched regularly, you would still be up against HUGE competition. You need to focus your marketing!

Choose a high profile newly released movie and include that in your auction title. For example, “The Da Vinci Code at Wholesale Prices” Many buyers will be looking to buy that product and would be desperate to find a way to save money somewhere along the lines. You could also put the auction title “The Da Vinci Code – 80% Off” but only if you have numerical data to prove it.

Constantly change the auction title to keep up with the new movies and use the eBay pulse to determine which movies are searched for the most. You can also use internet keyword research tools to determine the hottest movies out at that time.

Always feature your wholesale list auction for maximum exposure and play around with different auction titles. Featuring your wholesale list means you can get your auction listed in the search engines and you will attract a lot more traffic that way.

Once you have one wholesale list ready for sale, you can move onto creating another one. Link all of your wholesale lists together so if a customer buys your DVD wholesale list, they also have the option to buy your designer clothes wholesale list and after buying your designer clothes wholesale list they have the option to buy your candle wholesale list.

James Penn has helped many eBay sellers since launching his website which details the many methods available to make money on eBay. James also prides himself on over-delivering and to prove this he is giving away eBay eBooks for free. You can learn a lot more about eBay wholesalers & dropshippers.

Create a video blog…instantly.

You’ve sold all your junk. Emptied your attic. Sold your Grandmas antiques. What’s left to sell? How can you start making a more regular and reliable part-time income?

OK, selling unused stuff that has been hanging around your house is a great way to start your eBay trading.

Like most eBay traders you then probably check out places such as car boot sales, charity shops, thrift shops, garage sales etc. Again these are great places to pick up one off items and make a good profit on eBay.

The reason that you make a good profit is because the item that you are selling is fairly unique and there will be little if any competition in the eBay market place.

One of the down sides of these ‘second-hand’ items is that they are all different, it’s difficult for you to specialise in one item, and they all require different types of eBay descriptions. They also require different sized and types of packaging. In fact, dealing in these types of items can turn into a full time job, very soon the fun aspect goes out the window.

Eventually, after being on eBay for a while and studying other sellers, you see that some people are getting a high feedback by repeatedly selling the same item, usually with the “Buy It Now” option. These are things such as DVDs, CDs, Videos, virtually any type of items that you can find in normal shops.

What these people are doing is buying the items in bulk from wholesalers and reselling at a profit on eBay. However, because everyone has access to the wholesalers, you will no longer have a unique product. This means that you will have competition which means much lower profits for you. I’ve seen some “eBay Power Sellers” that sell over 30 DVDs per day at about $3 each. That sounds like a lot of work and administration for probably not a huge profit.

It would be nice if you could find an item that is somewhere in between the above to ways of selling on eBay.

Would you be interested in an item that has the following benefits?

1) Currently over 4000 of these items sell each week on eBay, so it’s a big market.

2) You can pick up the items really cheap in most towns, you’ll even find them in those garage sales and thrift shops, but you’ve been ignoring them!

3) The items are all roughly the same size, so you can standardise on your packaging.

4) The mark up profits can be phenomenal, perhaps 200% to 800%.

The item that I make a great part time income from is second-hand books. OK don’t yawn, it may sound boring, but that boredom soon goes when I buy a book for around $20 and resell it on eBay for $80.

Each second-hand book is fairly unique, like selling junk, thus there is little competition and that means I can make a good profit.

The main difficulty with selling second-hand books is knowing which ones sell for the most profit. For example you don’t want to buy books for $10 that can only be resold for $15. You could study eBay on a regular basis and make notes of what books are being sold for a high price. This would take you months of research and you would still have a limited list. Alternatively you check out the product that I mention in the resource box shown below.
